Taiwan Fojiao 《臺灣佛教》first published on 1st July 1947. It contains valuable Buddhist and non-Buddhist information on contemporary person, practices, events and policies. As hardcopies of the journal itself are difficult to find and no complete set seems to have survived, therefore works of digitize may keep these resources readily readable. Its metadata containing full texts, images, are further integrated with the project of ” Spatiotemporal Research Platform of Chinese Eminent Monks` Hagio-biographies” (in short, GIS).

Feature:

A complete collection of the Taiwan Buddhism(《臺灣佛教》) periodical from the first issue of volume 1 (July 1, 1947) to the first issue of volume 27 (April 08, 1973). The database contains complete scans of the full set as well as fully digitised text, which has been made freely accessible to all.

The Study and Creation of Taiwanese Buddhist Digital Database

The purpose of this project is to integrate humanities and science in the study and creation of Taiwanese Buddhist Digital Database that contains the largest dataset in this field of study from Ming dynasty to date. Although Taiwanese Buddhism has played an important role in the history and culture of Taiwan for more than 300 years, there are not many studies or reports on this topic. Therefore, the building of this database is not just one of its kind, but it might play an important role as an entry point for Sinologist or Buddhist Studies scholars, native and abroad.

Feature:

Research materials relating to Taiwanese Buddhism including books, journal articles (indexes and full texts), transcripts of interview, historical documents, multimedia resources, etc.

Digital Museum of Taiwanese Buddhism

This project is the result built on continuous experiences gained from database creation, fulltext archive and digital library application. By incorporating latest developments in network system, multimedia, visual & script design, content management and information retrieval technique, etc., it is an user-friendly digital museum database attributed to 300 year of Taiwanese Buddhism. There are information on Buddhist temples, organization, influential figures, art & culture, as well as virtual tour to places. People from everywhere may get to know the current development of Taiwanese Buddhism through these culture heritage and history presentation.

Feature:

Archive of text, journal, cultural relics, map, virtual place and an online learning platform of Taiwanese Buddhism.
