About:
In 2006, Professor Tu Aming, the then Director of the Library & Information Center, planned a project to digitize the eight volumes “Collected Works of Master Dongchu”. After obtaining consent and authorization from Venerable Guo-Yi, editor-in-chief of Dharma Drum Publishing Corporation, the task of typing and collation was outsourced from the beginning of March 2007.
In commemoration of Master Dongchu’s 100th birthday, the “Great Compassion Water and Land Dharma Service of Dharma Drum Mountain” was held at the “DDM World Center for Buddhist Education”, in December 2007. Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies and Dharma Drum Buddhist College (now DILA) joined effort to produce the first CD-ROM edition of “The Memorial Digital Archives of Master Dongshu of the Linji and Caodong Lineages” (臨濟、曹洞法脈東初老和尚紀念數位典藏專輯) and it was made available to all participants in the above mentioned event. In the hope that all may recall and appreciate the thick and thin Buddhists have been through in those privation times, to regain such strength and to continue walking in the footsteps of these eminent figures for the propagation of Buddhism.
During the “Library week” in 2006, the Library & Information Center especially presented a documentary exhibition, “Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary on the Passing of Master Dongchu & the 50th Anniversary of Promoting Taishō Tripiṭaka for Buddhism in Taiwan”. Venerable Guo-Jian, Deputy Director of the Library & Information Center, and the staff of the Library Office not only collected precious images and manuscripts for the event, they also conducted numerous interviews with aquaintances of Master Dongchu and presented a database of oral history. These efforts have contributed significantly in the making of this digital archive.
